Pieta: baroque music for female voices
Vocal and orchestral music for Lent by Bach, Handel, Hasse, Vivaldi, Zelenka, Charpentier, and Telemann
Pieta, 'pity' in Italian, often brings to mind the characteristic Easter image of the dead Christ held by his mother, so movingly rendered by Michelangelo. In our concert we play instrumental music and pieces for women's voices which evoke the many somber shades of Lent leading up to the glory of Easter.
